So I’m stuck on the Grateful Dead again. This morning I was listening to 2/13/70 and stumbled upon the acoustic part of the show. Maybe I was exhausted, or simply a bit more open, or maybe it was the beautiful vocals on the particular version, but Uncle John’s Band really spoke to me in a way that it hasn’t for a long time. The lyrics in particular really washed over me…
One line that struck me is, “I live in a silver mine, and I call it beggar’s tomb.”
How many of us have looked at the silver mines in our lives and seen only beggars’ tombs? Not that a silver mine is such a great thing, but it certainly not a beggar’s tomb!
